Welcome!
The Louis Pohl Gallery is dedicated to featuring Hawaii artists whose works reflect the standards of excellence, creativity, and inventive spirit for which its namesake was known during his lifetime.
The Louis Pohl Gallery's profits fund the Creative Arts Experience (CAE), a nonprofit organization.
The CAE's mission is four-fold:
1) to preserve Louis Pohl's artwork and legacy;
2) to promote Hawaii artists and art education programs;
3) to raise the quality of life for individuals, families and communities to “live peacefully day-by day; and
4) to help individuals reach their full potential.
The CAE participates in collaborations of divergent and seemingly unrelated stakeholders to build mutually beneficial and culturally relevant local solutions. In 2019, CAE started the Downtown Art Center.
Louis Pohl was always an advocate for Hawaii artists whether they were his students, colleagues, or those he mentored. Today, the gallery continues to strive toward the encouragement and introduction of fine art into the Hawaii community.
The Louis Pohl Gallery is one of a growing number of “small local businesses” making up the reinvigorated and vibrant Downtown/Chinatown district of Honolulu, an area rapidly becoming the state's center for cultural preservation and the fine arts. The Gallery is also a major attraction in the area's monthly First Friday events!
The collection of works displayed at the Louis Pohl Gallery is as diverse as it is dynamic due to the spectrum of art venues featured in the gallery due to a unique collaboration of its Resident Artists:
• Linda Bachrach, visit her own website at: LindaBachrach.com
• Helen Iaea visit her website at: www.heleniaeafineart.com
• Ken Kang
• Lauren Okano or visit her own website at: laurenokanoart.com
• Deborah Pacheco
• Arlene Woo at her website at: arlenewoo.blogspot.com or cfai.co/arlenewoo/
In addition to its resident artists, the Louis Pohl Gallery presents new exhibitions each featuring the works of invited guest artists. These month-long exhibits change on the First Friday of every month.
