Mark N. Brown Chinatown Plein Air

Mark Brown will have his artist reception on First Friday. He has been painting in Hawaii for more than 30 years and is the leader of the plain air movement in Honolulu. His Chinatown art demonstrates his love of Chinatown as he has captured the vibrancy of our neighborhood and iconic places. You might have seen him in town, painting on street corners over the last several months.

On Second Saturday, the arts district is sponsoring the first Chinatown Plein Air paint out. Artists are challenged to come with their easels, canvases and paints. Mark will give some simple instructions at 8 am before the artists are sent out to paint their favorite street scenes. Costs for entry is $10. Judging takes place at 12 noon. All the paintings will be hung in front of the Louis Pohl Gallery and prizes awarded.

Come check out Mark's paintings, or participate in our plain air challenge, or come at 12 to see the finished wet paintings.

Enjoy the moment, that's all we have.

Best First Friday parking is at Kukui Plaza, entrance on Kukui Street behind Pali Long's.
