The Clay of John Bade
John Bade is both an artist and teacher when it comes to clay. His works span the gambit ranging from whimsical and functional to dramatic taking full advantage of the dimensional and textural qualities inherent in his chosen media.
"Clay is my joy. My philosophy in art and life is,''if you cannot have at least a little fun with what your doing, you are probably doing something not quite right".
John is the Studio Manager and member of the instructional staff of the well-known Toshiko Takaezu Ceramics Studio at the Richard's Street YWCA in Downtown Honolulu. In addition to his specialties in ceramic murals, fountains, and unique glaze effects, John's distinctive and humorous clay characters have delighted many and while offering a glimpse of the "lighter" side of this talented Hawaii artist.
